Bournville Rugby Club hosted another successful Winter Sports Lunch at Birmingham’s Grand Hotel on Friday February 27.
Compered by Gary Marshall, the event featured former England scrum-half Danny Care, who retired last year after winning 101 international caps and making 395 appearances for Harlequins. He provided guests with an engaging and honest reflection on his 19-year professional career.
More than 250 guests from the property and professional sectors attended the event, with table sponsorship support from Frontier Facilities Management, TanRo Ltd., Cottons Property Consultants, Barberry Group and Innes England, sponsors of the VIP Drinks Reception.
Former England international James Forrester, now Commercial Sales Director at Gloucester Rugby, also spoke about the 4Ed Foundation, established by Ed Slater following his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease. Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby contest the Slater Cup in his honour, with this season’s fixture due to take place at Villa Park on Saturday 28 March.
Rob Sigley of Frontier Facilities Management and Commercial Director of Bournville Rugby said: “It was a superb afternoon in the Grand Ballroom. Danny was insightful, self-deprecating and incredibly generous with his stories, and the audience was fully engaged throughout.
The support from our sponsors and guests allows us to continue investing in rugby and community sport at Avery Fields. Through the Avery Fields Community Foundation, we are committed to widening access to sport and supporting young people, ensuring the club continues to thrive for generations to come.”
Dan Cole and Ben Youngs will be the guest speakers at Bournville’s Summer Sports Lunch on Friday 19 June 2026. The event will host 600 guests in a marquee at Avery Fields. Tables of 10 are available from £1,250 + VAT.
