Three changes for Luctonians trip

Bournville have made three changes to the side – plus two positional – for Saturday’s National Two West match against leaders Luctonians at Mortimer Park (2.15pm)*.

Centre Sam Grimshaw and lock Nick Murphy are both ruled out of the trip to Herefordshire having taken knocks in last Saturday’s victory against Old Redcliffians at Avery Fields.

Sam Wilson, who replaced Grimshaw in the second-half, will start this week, forming a new centre pairing with former Scotland international Alex Grove.

Murphy misses out because of a hand injury which means a reshuffle in the pack with Louis Mifsud moving into the second row from the blindside flank.

Lewis Hall, who started at openside against Old Redcliffians, moves across to the other side of the scrum with skipper Chris Idehen reverting to openside and Jonjo Fanning starting at number eight after his muscular contribution off the bench last week.

The other change is at tighthead where Ryan Smeilus starts with Stefan Thorp, who produced a ferocious scrummaging performance against Old Redcliffians despite a knee injury, named among the replacements this week.

Hooker Ollie Stone, lock/back-row Jack Holdaway, centre Josh Bloomfield and back five player Will Aylen come into the squad as replacements.

Luctonians, who were narrow winners at Avery Fields earlier in the season, were unbeaten until early November but lost twice more – at home to Hinckley and away at Old Redcliffians – before Christmas.

But they beat Redruth 35-17 at Mortimer Park last Saturday and currently lead Dings Crusaders by five points in the battle for promotion to National One.

*The match is ON after the referee deemed the pitch at Mortimer Park to be playable after a second inspection on Saturday morning.
