Trio called up for seasonal debuts at Luctonians

Full-back Rhys Williams Goldman, lock George Jewell and centre Alex Grove have been called up for their seasonal debuts for Bournville in Saturday’s National Two West match against Luctonians at Mortimer Park (3pm).

Williams Goldman and Head Coach Grove come in to a re-jigged back division with Jewell called up in the pack in place of the unavailable Ben Meakin.

Jacob Fewtrell will captain the side in Meakin’s absence and will revert to fly-half to partner Adam Collingwood at half-back. Collingwood starts this week in place of Reiss Price, who suffered a dead leg in the defeat by Clifton.

Oscar Fawkes-Underwood moved from full-back to the wing to accommodate Williams Goldman who, like Jewell, has impressed for Bournville Blues this season.

Jonjo Fanning starts at blindside flanker in a reshuffled back-row with Paddy Smallman moving across to number eight to replace the injured Callum Nicholls.

On the bench Jamie Maynard, son of club Managing Director Phil, is called up for what could be his competitive debut having previously featured in pre-season friendlies.

Poland Under-20s prop Kuba Kijak and scrum-half Joe Carter both return to the first team squad for the first time since the defeat at Redruth on the opening day of the season.

Elliot Tanner, who started at fly-half against Clifton, retains his place in the squad as a replacement this week.

Bourns face Luctonians a week after the Herefordshire club suffered their first defeat of the season, a surprise 50-31 reverse at Loughborough Students last Saturday.

Mortimer Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Bourns in recent season’s although they have twice come away with a losing bonus point, on their last visit in November 2024 and in a Midlands Premier match in November 2021.
