Jenkins back to face Hornets

Wales Sevens international centre Joe Jenkins returns to the side for Bournville’s National Two West match against Hornets at Avery Fields on Saturday (2.30pm).

Jenkins missed the defeat at Loughborough Students two weeks ago having suffered a dead leg in the first-half of the thrilling 50-43 victory over Taunton Titans.

Jenkins has now recovered and he comes into the side for former Scotland centre Alex Grove as one of two changes to the starting XV.

The other change is at hooker where James Weaver starts in place of Ben Rhodes who has been ruled out for the rest of the season by a torn biceps.

With Jake Bailey also on the long-term injured list, Conor Thorneycroft has been named as replacement hooker and is in line to make his competitive debut.

Thorneycroft joined Bournville from Sutton Coldfield last season and, having featured in some of the pre-season programme, has performed consistently for the Blues in their inaugural season in Counties Three Midlands West (South).

Centre Sam Grimshaw has also been named on the bench having made his comeback from a two months injury lay-off in the Blues in recent weeks.

Back-row forward Kieran Henderson returns to the matchday squad as a replacement as Bourns opt for a three-two split on the bench.

Bournville go into Saturday’s match having slipped to 12th in the table, four points above the relegation zone, since they played Loughborough.

Exeter University swapped places with Bourns after they beat Luctonians in a rearranged match at Topsham last week with Hinckley also pulling away from the relegation zone with a 31-29 win at Cinderford.

Bournville completed a home-and-away double over Hornets last season but went down 27-21 to the Weston-super-Mare based club in October having gone 27-0 down in the first-half.

Hornets were beaten on their two previous visits to Avery Fields and although they have won just once on the road this season – at Exeter University in October – three of their away defeats have been by six points or fewer.
