Bournville were given an early reminder of how tough National Two West rugby is as they went down to a heavy opening day defeat in Cornwall.
Few sides enjoy a visit to Hellfire Corner, even in perfect conditions, and the match was over as a contest by half-time as Redruth ran up a 40-0 lead.
Bourns emerged with credit by scoring two well-worked tries after the break through debutant centre Oscar van Deventer and Oscar Fawkes-Underwood but the damage had been done.
The good news is that the longest away trip of the season is now out of the way and the players will not have to spend eight hours on a coach again.
But the challenge of trying to pick up points on the road remains a steep one and Bourns will need to start better than they did here.
Redruth were on the front foot for all of the first period which meant Bourns had 40 minutes of tackle practise.
Inevitably the pressure told and a mounting penalty count also wore Bourns down.
The tries came at regular intervals – three for centre Sam James, two for wing Jack Counter and one for wing Noah Clifford – plus five conversions from fly-half Joe Cummins.
Bourns were not helped when Clarkson McLeod was sin-binned after an accumulation of team penalties and they were briefly down to 13 men when centre Sam Grimshaw was also yellow-carded.
Redruth stretched further clear when James crossed for his fourth try of the afternoon before replacement hooker Cowan-Dickie went over for a driving line out.
Bourns finally gave their excellent travelling support something to cheer when van Deventer and Fawkes-Underwood scored in quick succession.
But Redruth had the last word when Robert Baragwanath went over late on with Cummins landing his eighth conversion.
