Weaver and Fanning back in training to boost Bournville

Bournville will be boosted by the availability of front-row forward James Weaver and number eight Jonjo Fanning when they resume their National Two West campaign after the festive break with the visit of Old Redcliffians to Avery Fields on Saturday January 13 (2.30pm).

Club Captain Weaver has not played since the defeat at Newport on November 4 because of a torn calf muscle. But he is now back in training and will be in contention for selection for the Old Redcliffians match

Fanning missed the defeat at Dudley Kingswinford in the final match before the Christmas break due to illness. But he is also back in training and his return to fitness will increase selection options against Bristol-based Old Redcliffians.

Scrum-half Billy McDonough has also resumed light training having suffered a knee ligament injury against Dings Crusaders on November 11. The former Worcester Academy prospect will gradually increase his training workload this month with the aim of a return to action early next month.

Prop Kurtis Payne is also in line for an early-February return as he recovers from a facial injury while hooker Jake Bailey (fractured wrist) and back-row forward Ben O’Sullivan (fractured arm) will take a little longer to recover from their injuries.

But wing Ethan Walker is unlikely to feature this season following a recurrence of a back injury and back-row forward Sam Sheppard is currently unavailable for selection owing to work commitments that prevent him from training.

Meanwhile, work commitments as part of Harlequins’ educational team have led to Attack Coach Jon Perks departing Avery Fields.
