Wales Sevens international Joe Jenkins joins Bournville

Bournville will be the latest destination for the much-travelled Joe Jenkins when he arrives at Avery Fields for pre-season training.

Jenkins was born and raised in Australia but has played international sevens rugby for Wales – he qualified through his Welsh father – on a rugby journey that has taken him from Brisbane, Massachusetts, Swansea and Edinburgh.

Academic studies have brought Jenkins to the University of Birmingham and he has become the latest new signing for Bournville with his ability to play anywhere in the back three adding strength to the squad.

“Joe has a fantastic rugby background having played in the Scottish Premiership and Welsh 7s,” said Bournville Director of Rugby Paul Sumner.

“His athletic ability and versatility in the back line will make him invaluable going forward.”

Jenkins played top-flight club rugby in Brisbane for the University of Queensland before spending a semester in the United States where he also played rugby for Massachusetts University.

He then moved to the land of his father where he played Welsh Premiership rugby for Swansea and trained with Ospreys and was soon involved in the Welsh Sevens team.

Jenkins moved to Scotland two years ago when he began studying for a Masters degree at Napier University in Edinburgh and played in the Scottish Premiership for Boroughmuir and for Southern Knights, the Melrose-based semi-professional side in the Super Six competition.
