Bournville’s 41-30 defeat by Hornets in their latest National Two West encounter at Avery Fields were the result of self-inflicted wounds according to Head Coach Matt Price.
Bournville scored four tries to claim a valuable bonus point in the fight against relegation but conceded seven, three of them in a ten minute period while lock Harry Dawson was in the sin bin.
Bournville remain four points clear of Macclesfield – who also collected a try bonus point on the road at Cinderford – but face a testing final eight match run-in with five of them away from Avery Fields.
Bournville have won only once on the road in two years – at Hornets last April – and their next assignment is at league leaders Camborne next Saturday.
“We made a lot of errors at crucial times which really held us back. It was a frustrating day all round,” Price said.
“We didn’t replicate how we wanted to play like we did against Taunton. Everything came down to what we did. Through our actions we put ourselves under pressure. We could have played the game in a way that took that game out of Hornets’ hands completely and we didn’t.
“We weren’t beaten by a side that dominated a certain area of the game, we beat ourselves. What we have got to do is work out how we don’t do that again.
“We have some tough fixtures coming up. It’s a hard run-in but what do we do? Do we roll over and accept what we are doing? No, we don’t we fight and we come out fighting and we go for it.
“We can play, we have proved that against some top five sides but we have got to do the hard yards and we have to cut out the errors under pressure. We have a decision to make: fight or flight.
“The try bonus point was important. There are not a lot of positives that I can pull out of today but that was one.”
