Lucy Hiller, daughter of club stalwart, the late Jon ‘Booter’ Hillier is walking 84km to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
‘Booter’ passed away in April aged 61, one of the 84 people who die from pancreatic cancer every three days in the UK.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate among all major cancers – just 7.3% to 8.3% in the UK – largely because late diagnosis makes it incredibly difficult to treat.
Despite its high mortality rate, it remains one of the most under-funded cancers.
To support Pancreatic Cancer UK and to honour the memory of her father, Lucy will be walking the 84km in September. She is already close to her inital target of £500 but further donations from Booter’s friends and team-mates – and opponents – at Bournville are welcome.
“Dad brought so much joy to everyone around him with his wit and humour,” Lucy said.
“He was brave, strong kind and intelligent – always ready with good advice and a listening ear, and a calm presence in any storm.
“Dad loved life deeply and fought with everything he had to survive. He deserved a long, happy life, as do the hundreds of thousands of people taken by this disease every year.”
