Prop quartet sign on for next season

Bournville have retained the services of props Stef Thorp, James Burgoyne, Kurtis Payne and Kuba Kijak for the 2024/25 National Two West season.

Tightheads Thorp and Payne reinforced their reputations as two of the most powerful scrummagers in the league with some destructive performances that helped Bournville to the club’s highest-ever league placing and a record number of National League wins and points haul.

Thorp arrived from Stourbridge in the summer of 2023 having previously anchored Birmingham Moseley’s scrum.

Payne is in his second spell with Bournville having rejoined in 2019 after four seasons with Birmingham & Solihull.

Loosehead Burgoyne complemented Thorp and Payne with some stand-out performances both in the set piece and the loose.

He also made his 100th senior appearance for the club in November having arrived from Moseley Oak in 2018. He had previous National Leagues experience from his time with Birmingham Moseley.

Kijak, a Poland Under-20s international, was restricted to just two appearances in the season that has just finished due to an injury sustained during a loan spell at Old Halesonians.

But he remains a valued member of the first team squad and a player with great potential.

The prop quartet are the first confirmed re-signings for next season with more to be announced in the coming days.
