Bournville Head Coach Matt Price took heart from the commitment of his players in adversity against National Two West leaders Camborne at The Rec.
Bournville left Cornwall – belatedly as it turned out after their bus broke down – having suffered a 52-5 defeat against a side that has been beaten only twice this season.
The match was all over as a contest by half-time as Camborne scored 31 points unanswered points but Price was still able to take some encouragement from the performance.
“They are where they and we are where we are. That’s not going to lie and it didn’t today,” he said.
“They didn’t do anything outstanding but they just finished off and were clinical. We made some mistakes and they capitalised and scored points.
“We were banging away for a fair bit and eventually got over in the second-half – the second-half performance was better.
“Camborne are physical, they are a big side, they look after the ball well and they put you under pressure.
“It was a tough day but our boys never gave in and never stopped running and they really grafted so we can take a lot of heart from that.”
Bournville have a week off before they make a much shorter trip to Hinckley on March 1 but have two more injuries to assess before then.
“We picked up a couple of injuries. James Weaver looks like he has popped a rib or something and Adam Shaw looks like he might have torn a rotator cuff so we will have to look at them this week, regroup and see where we are. Luckily we have a week off,” Price said.
For the second week running there was a debutant off the bench with loose forward George Jewell, a recent arrival from Old Patesians, having a baptism of fire.
“George got on and played well and got stuck in. I’m chuffed for him as he’s only joined us recently,” Price said.
