Head Coach Matt Price was delighted with Bournville’s second successive home bonus point victory of the season against Redruth at Avery Fields.
The 34-22 win avenged a double by the Cornish visitors last season and followed the opening day win over Devonport Services two weeks ago.
With two points from a narrow defeat at Macclesfield last week, Bournville currently stand fifth in the National Two West table with plenty of scope for further improvement.
“The performance was a lot better than two weeks ago. Redruth are a seasoned National Leagues side so to get five points and for them to get nothing out of it is a good result,” Price said.
“We are two wins from three games, we have got 12 points and we are fifth in the table. It’s a great start and we didn’t really get out of second gear today.”
Experienced centre Rob Knox bagged a brace of tries against Redruth and experienced forward pair, flanker Chris Idehen and lock Nick Murphy, also made telling contributions in their first starts of the season.
“Rob’s a dangerous player when he has got the ball in hand. He hasn’t played a lot of rugby over the last two years so he is still coming back to where we know what we know he can do,” Price said.
“There is still a lot more to come from him. But I thought that the whole of our back line today was dangerous and was a cut above them.
“It was good to see Chris back with us. I thought he brought a lot of dog which was important and we needed that. I’m chuffed for him and for Murph as well.
“I thought his physical presence was very good. He sacked a lot of lineouts and disrupted a lot of their stuff.”
Redruth’s travel problems – they were stuck in traffic on the M5 near Worcester for an hour – meant a delayed kick-off but Price thought that had no bearing on the result.
“It’s the same for both teams. It didn’t change too much, it just delayed things a bit,” he said.
“I actually thought we came out of the blocks well. We had a clear plan of, what we wanted to be with them and we executed that well.
“I thought that we could have scored earlier than we did. So, we did a little bit of extra work there but, all in all, I thought it was a good win.”
