Bournville have secured the services of four more players for next season with locks Nick Murphy, Ben Meakin, Ben O’Sullivan and Matt Spence the latest to re-sign at Avery Fields.
Murphy, Meakin and O’Sullivan all arrived from Stourbridge 12 months ago and played their parts in helping Bournville to secure their highest-ever league placing with a record number of wins and points haul in National Leagues rugby.
Murphy, who has also played for Coventry and Shropshire club Newport, impressed with his solid work in set piece play and his physicality in the loose in an outstanding first season with Bournville.
Meakin, a former Midlands Under-18s player, forged an effective second row partnership with Murphy as well as being a mobile and effective ball carrier in the loose.
O’Sullivan’s first season at Avery Fields was disrupted by a broken arm sustained against Hornets in December which kept him out of action for two months.
Either side of that lay-off he turned in some excellent performances with his ability to play across the back five of the scrum an added bonus.
Spence has spent much of his time with Bournville captaining the Blues but he stepped up to the first team for the final month of the season and enhanced his reputation with a series of solid performances that helped secure successive wins over Chester, Hornets and Hinckley to end the campaign on a high.
The re-signing of the four locks takes the number of confirmed retained players to 12 with more announcements to come over the next week.
