Final push for Foodbank donations

Bournville are having a final push for the collection of much-needed items to support the B30 and South Birmingham Foodbank.

A donation point has been set up in the clubhouse at Avery Fields where items can be left but supporters, players, staff and visitors have only until Sunday December 15 to donate before they are taken to the Foodbank in Kings Norton.

“Last year we donated 146.4kg of food to help local people in crisis which was a fantastic effort but we would like to beat that amount this year,” said Phil Maynard, Bournville’s Managing Director.

“We are grateful to those who have already donated but we need to deliver to the Foodbank early next week so the items can be distributed in time for Christmas so we are having a big final push this week.

“Sadly, the number of people requiring emergency food supplies in our local community has increased again this year.

“So, we are asking all sections of the club to think about those who are less fortunate than themselves and donate some of the much-needed items below to help make Christmas a little more enjoyable for those in crisis.”

The non-perishable items most needed by the B30 and South Birmingham Foodbank are:
• tinned ham
• tinned salmon
• tinned rice pudding
• alcohol-free Christmas pudding
• tinned peas
• tinned carrots
• UHT whole milk
• tinned spaghetti
• pasta shapes
• rice (500g)
• tinned/carton custard
• chocolate bars
• jam
• honey
• long-life fruit juice
• small jars of instant coffee (not de-caffeinated)
• instant noodles
• sweet biscuits (not multi-packs)
• liquid/bars of soap
• toothpaste
• nappies (sizes 5 and 6)

The B30 and South Birmingham Foodbank was set up in 2013 and last year made 9,493 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis including 4,958 for children.
