Bournville Blues were edged out 22-21 by hosts Claverdon in their opening pre-season friendly at Ossetts Hole Lane.
Blues were 21-7 up at half-time with scrum-half George Ayliffe, back-row forward Ben Harper and Poland Under-20 international prop Kuba Kijak scoring tries, all of them converted by Ayliffe.
But Claverdon hit back strongly in the second-half to deny Blues a further score and secure victory for themselves.
The sides will meet again at Avery Fields on October 11, this time with Counties Two Midlands West (East) points at stake.
Blues continue their build up to the new league season with another pre-season match against Woodrush at Avery Fields on August 30.
