Bournville have secured the services of two more key members of their Regional One Midlands title-winning squad ahead of the return to National Two West next season.
Back-row forwards Adam Shaw and Callum Nicholls have signed up for another season at Avery Fields having made significant contributions to the promotion campaign.
Shaw joined Bourns from Old Halesonians two years ago and has quickly established a reputation as a fearless, aggressive and quick openside flanker who rounded off his season by helping North Midlands win the County Championship Division Two title at Twickenham.
Nicholls arrived from Dudley Kingswinford via a brief spell with Birmingham Moseley in October and produced a series of important powerful ball-carrying performances in the second half of the season.
“Shawsy’s tackling is simply outstanding. He doesn’t shy away from anything. He’s one of the toughest players we have got in the team,” said Head Coach Alex Grove.
“He’s a genuine scavenging openside who is mobile, is happy to get his hands on the ball and is a nice link player between forwards and backs.
“I’m delighted that we have secured his services for another year because he’s a real quality player.
“Callum is someone who got better and better as the season went on and we really saw his ball-carrying ability in the second half of the season.
“Maybe that’s because he grew in confidence as the season went on and he accumulated game time. His stand-out performance at Lichfield in awful conditions really showed how far he has come.
“I suspect that he is going to be integral to our back-row next season. We don’t have a huge squad but he’s a big ball-carrying back-row and someone who wants to get his hands on the ball so he’s a real asset for us.”
