Four Bournville players have returned from Italy having helped the Penguins defeat hosts Bologna 33-17 on their annual summer tour.
Freddie Morgan, Sam Grimshaw, Ben Meakin and James Weaver all played their part in the victory in a side that was coached by former Bourns Head Coach Matt Price.
The tour also included Penguins Rockhoppers, the invitation club’s women’s side, who beat Bologna 90-7 in a curtain-raiser to the men’s match at the Pier Paolo Bonori Sports Centre and coaching clinics for local youngsters.
The Penguins were founded in 1959 by the late Tony Mason and Alan Wright, both players for Kent club Sidcup, and they are now recognised as the UK’s premier touring club having played in or against teams or coached from no less than 80 countries.
The principal objective of the Club has been to foster – by coaching and playing – the development, goodwill and camaraderie of Rugby Union worldwide. The Club’s coaching and educational programme is organised by the Penguin International Rugby Coaching Academy and this work is part funded by the UK registered charity the Penguin International Rugby Football Trust.
In addition to an annual tour the Penguins play two prestigious domestic fixtures each season – against Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
