Williams switches to fly-half at Clifton

Owen Williams will start at fly-half for Bournville in Saturday’s National Two West match against Clifton at Station Road (2.30pm).

Williams is Bournville’s regular full-back but will form a new half-back pairing with Jay West as Jacob Fewtrell has been ruled out with a torn hamstring which he sustained against Camborne last Saturday.

Nathan Decalmer switches from the left wing to replace Williams at full-back with Will Aylen called up to the back division as one of three changes to the starting XV.

Kurtis Payne, who came off the bench against Camborne, starts at tighthead prop this week in a swap with Stefan Thorp.

Lewis Hall returns to the openside flank in a re-jigged back-row with Ben O’Sullivan moving to the bench.

Aaron Esiri is added to the squad as a replacement in place of the injured Joe Nellany and will make his first appearance in a year if he comes on.

Esiri arrived at Avery Fields from Westcombe Park in the summer of 2022 and has been a consistent performer for the Blues as well as making two first team appearances last season, the last of them in them as a replacement against Redruth.

Bournville head to Clifton for their penultimate road trip of the season seeking a first away win of the campaign.

But they will face a Clifton side who beat Luctonians 10-8 at Mortimer Park last Saturday, a result that improved the promotion prospects of their Bristol rivals Dings Crusaders.

The win also avenged a 27-22 defeat by Luctonians at Station Road in November, which is Clifton’s only home defeat this season although Dings and Redruth have both drawn there.

Last season Clifton completed a high-scoring double over Bournville, running out 57-28 winners at Avery Fields and 64-40 at Station Road, with the two matches producing 30 tries.
