West called up for debut to sting Hornets

Scrum-half Jay West will make his debut for Bournville in Saturday’s National Two West match against Hornets at Avery Fields (2.30pm).

West is a recent arrival from Broadstreet but he is no stranger to Bournville having scored a try for Tynedale – his previous club – against them in a National Two North match two years ago.

West, who played for Bournville Blues last week, is the only change to the starting XV that was beaten at Chester last weekend. He comes into the side for Ben Tibbetts who will play for the Blues at Nuneaton this weekend.

Prop Kurtis Payne returns to the matchday squad as a replacement having been unavailable last weekend.

Josh Bloomfield is in line to make his first appearance in three months having been named on the bench.

Saturday’s match marks the halfway stage of Bournville’s season and the chance to climb the table.

Hornets are one place above them in 11th with a three points advantage having won three and drawn one of their first 12 games.

The draw came at Hinckley four weeks ago with the wins coming at home against Loughborough Students, Newport and Dudley Kingswinford.

Weston-super-Mare-based Hornets beat Bournville 17-10 at home at the same stage of last season but went down 46-38 on their first visit to Avery Fields four months later.

They ended their first season in the National Leagues in 12th, one place below Bournville and one above the relegation zone.
