Meakin and Dawson commit to Bourns

Bournville captain Ben Meakin and his second-row partner Harry Dawson have re-signed for the club’s return to National Leagues rugby.

Meakin led Bourns to the Regional One Midlands title with two rounds of matches to go and has committed to continuing his career at Avery Fields in National Two West.

Meakin joined Bournville from Stourbridge three years ago and grew into the captaincy last season after a testing first season at the helm.

Dawson joined Bourns in the 2021/22 season on loan from Birmingham Moseley and made the move permanent the following summer.

He, like Meakin, is a consistent, no-frills performer whose reliability made him an important member of the title-winning squad.

“We are delighted that Meaks has re-signed. He did an exceptional job as captain last season, getting us back into the National League at the first time of asking,” said Head Coach Alex Grove.

“To have him as a constant in the group was really important to us.  He’s the sort of leader who doesn’t say a huge amount. He leads by example by his actions on the field. He certainly did that last season and we will be looking to build the team around him next season.

“Harry had previously been in and out of the matchday squad but last season he cemented himself in that second row shirt.

“He had an excellent season and the challenge now is for him to replicate that, albeit at a higher level next season.”
