Madzima steps up for season finale

Eugene Madzima, another product of Bournville’s Player Pathway Programme, will make his first team debut in the Regional One Midlands finale against Nuneaton at Liberty Way on Saturday (3pm).

Madzima scored a brace of tries on his debut for Bournville Blues earlier this season and he gets his first team chance having continued to impress with them in Counties Midlands Two West (East).

He comes into the side on the right wing and will be one of two Colts in the side alongside Oscar Fawkes-Underwood who switches from full-back to fly-half with Jacob Fewtrell moving to the centre.

Joe Jenkins returns at full-back with Adam Collingwood returning to the side at scrum-half in the other change to the back division that started in the defeat by Newport two weeks ago.

There are two changes in the pack, both in the back-row, where George Jewell, another has performed consistently for the Blues in recent weeks, starts at blindside flanker and Jonjo Fanning returns at number eight.

Callum Nicholls switches to the bench with Rhys Williams Goldman returning to the squad as cover for the backs.

Chris Idehen, who suffered a calf injury in the warm-up before the Newport match, and Sam Grimshaw who pulled a hamstring early in that game, are missing along with Nathan Decalmer whose knee injury which he sustained against Dudley Kingswinford proving season-ending.

Saturday’s match brings together teams who will be leaving Regional One Midlands at the end of the season, albeit in different directions with Bourns having secured the title three weeks ago and Nuneaton guaranteed bottom spot after a chastening season in which they have lost 20 of their 21 matches with a 17-17 draw with Dudley Kingswinford breaking the run of defeats.

The Nuns were beaten 69-7 in the season opener at Avery Fields, the first of 15 defeats by 50 more points including a 110-7 reverse at Newent the heaviest.
