Head Coach Alex Grove said that Bournville were almost unplayable in a devastating second-half which swept them to a 41-19 victory over Stourbridge at Stourton Park.
The Regional One Midlands leaders were trailing until the 38th minute but went ahead with a superbly constructed try from lock Harry Dawson just before the break which gave Stourbridge a taste of what was to come in the second-half.
Bourns then battered their hosts in a one-sided second-half and went on to secure an eighth straight win and their fourth on the road.
“I thought our attack in the second half was relatively simple but it shows how effective it can be when you are really accurate at pace. We were much more accurate with the ball in the second-half and we showed more composure,” Grove said.
“Even if the opposition knew what was coming they still had to defend it. That level of pace and accuracy makes it really hard to do that.
“At half-time we said that if Stourbridge were going to score any points we had to make them work hard for it. We gifted Stourbridge two tries in the first-half and they didn’t have to work hard at all for them.
“It’s pretty frustrating to show glimpses of what we did in the first-half and then undermine it with lack of clarity at times. We didn’t have that lack of clarity in the second half which is why we managed to get what we describe as our game on the field which is fast, clear, aggressive and direct rugby.
“For a lot of teams that’s really hard to deal with. So I’m really pleased for the lads that they recognised the challenge at half-time and they delivered.
“I thought the difference today was the whole of the second-half and five minutes before half-time we were really accurate and almost unplayable.”
Bournville’s win maintained a four points lead over Newport at the top of the table with Bromsgrove, who visit Avery Fields on January 17, now up to third at Stourbridge’s expense.
The Bromsgrove match is sandwiched between two tricky trips to Gloucestershire for Bournville with Drybrook next up on January 10 followed by Newent on January 31.
