Fewtrell returns for Redruth trek

Fly-half Jacob Fewtrell will make his first appearance in three months when Bournville resume their National Two West campaign with a trip to the Recreation Ground to face Redruth on Saturday (2pm).

Fewtrell’s last appearance came in the narrow defeat at Hornets on October 12 and exam commitments have since restricted his availability.

He returned to action with a commanding performance for Bournville Blues in their home win over Worcester Seconds two weeks ago and comes straight into the starting XV at Redruth as one of five changes to the side beaten by Macclesfield last time out.

Rhys Williams starts at full-back, filling the gap left by his brother, Owen, whose work commitments have taken him to London.

Alex Evans returns on the left wing in place of Dan Rundle with James Mann, who has been named as travelling reserve, making way for Fewtrell.

In the pack, skipper Ben Meakin has recovered from the concussion he suffered at Clifton four weeks ago and he comes into the second row to partner Harry Dawson in place of Ben O’Sullivan.

In the back-row, Jonjo Fanning is recalled at blindside with Louis Mifsud switching to the openside flank in place of Adam Shaw who suffered a head injury against Macclesfield.

On the bench, scrum-half Reiss Price, a recent recruit from Luctonians, is set for his first team debut after a couple of impressive showings for the Blues before Christmas.

Bournville head to Redruth, and the Recreation Ground’s infamous ‘Hellfire Corner’ seeking their first away win of the season and attempting to halt a run of six straight defeats which has seen them slip from the top six to twelfth, just one place and one point above the relegation places.

But they will take comfort from the fact that they were edged out 28-26 on their last visit to Redruth early last season and were 34-22 winners against the Cornishmen at Avery Fields in September.
