James Burgoyne’s sending off against Clifton has brought his Bournville career to a premature close.
The loosehead prop is moving to Devon at the end of the season and had intended to play his 141st and final appearance for Bournville in Saturday’s National Two West finale at Devonport Services.
But Burgoyne’s dismissal for comments made to an assistant referee after he was allegedly head-butted by a Clifton player two weeks ago has put paid to those plans.
Burgoyne admitted disrespecting a match official when he appeared before an RFU disciplinary panel and received a three-match suspension.
Burgoyne intends to continue playing and is currently looking for a club close to what will be his new base but will need to sit out two meaningful matches before he can play for them.
Burgoyne joined Bournville from Moseley Oak in 2018 having previously played for Birmingham Moseley in National One.
He has since become a fixture in the front row and was a key member of the squad that won the Midlands Premier title in 2019/20 and promotion to the National Leagues for the first time.
Everyone at Bournville thanks ‘Burgs’ for his outstanding service and we wish him well for the future.
