Wing Cam Smith will start for Bournville in Saturday’s National Two West match at Hinckley in the only change to the side which beat Lymm last week.
Smith was named in the starting line-up last week but his delayed arrival at Avery Fields meant a late reshuffle with Will Tanner promoted from the bench and Smith switched to a replacement.
Tanner scored the first of Bourns’ six tries and has retained his place against Hinckley but switches to his more familiar position of centre to partner Sam Grimshaw. The pair were North Midlands’ centre pairing in their County Championship Division Two winning campaign last season.
Smith, who scored a try when he came off the bench in the second-half against Lymm, starts on the left wing with Sam Peppitt switching to the right in the other positional change as Bourns stick with a winning side.
Smith replaces former Leicester Academy centre Oscar van Deventer who has scored a try in each of his first two appearances for the club but has now gone travelling in New Zealand and will be unavailable until the New Year.
Oscar Fawkes-Underwood, who started at full-back for the Blues against Silhillians last week, returns to the first team squad as a replacement with hooker James Randall appearing on a Bourns’ team-sheet for the first time since December 2022.
Randall scored three tries in his first four appearances at the end of the 2021/22 season and has spent the past two seasons with Birmingham Moseley. The former Hartpury University player is back with Bourns on a loan arrangement along with Peppitt and scrum-half Reiss Price.
Jonjo Fanning, who has covered the hooker position for the last two weeks, is unavailable this weekend.
After starting the season with their longest away trip of the season at Redruth, Bourns now have their shortest awayday with Hinckley’s Leicester Road ground under 40 miles away.
It has not been a happy hunting ground for Bourns in recent years with their most recent visit, 18 months ago, ending in a 64-19 defeat.
Bourns have to go back to October 2013 for their last win at Hinckley, a 27-25 success in what was then National Three Midlands – now Regional One Midlands – with four defeats there since then.
