Bournville Blues earned a valuable try bonus point in their 37-26 defeat by Harbury at Waterloo Fields in Counties Two Midlands West (East).
It could have been more as the Blues had plenty of first-half possession but were turned over five times close to Harbury’s line and they also gifted their hosts two tries with interceptions.
Number eight Jonjo Fanning marked his return from a head knock sustained on his 100th first team appearance against Bridgnorth last month with a brace of tries with wing Stephen Terera and fly-half Alex Warner also crossing to help secure the bonus point. Warner also landed three conversions in a personal haul of 11 points.
The match also featured appearances from two sons of senior Bournville officials. Harry Sigley, the son of former Moseley, Birmingham & Solihull and Bourns prop Rob, started on the blindside flank with Jamie Maynard, the son of Avery Fields Managing Director Phil, making his return from an ankle injury off the bench.
The recent snow missed Harbury but, despite a sharp overnight frost, the match was given the go-ahead after a late morning pitch inspection.
