Bournville fly-half Jacob Fewtrell was the hero for North Midlands with a last-gasp penalty which clinched a thrilling 43-41 victory over Devon in the Bill Beaumont Cup County Championship Division Two semi-final Brixham.
Fewtrell kick settled a fast, furious and entertaining contest and booked North Midlands a trip to Twickenham for the final on June 7 (3pm) where they will meet Northumberland who beat Staffordshire 51-3 in the other semi-final at Percy Park.
Fewtrell was one of 10 Bourns players in North Midlands’ matchday squad and each played an important part in the victory with wing Mauro Miller scoring a hat-trick of tries and centre Sam Grimshaw and openside flanker Chris Idehen crossing for one apiece.
North Midlands were trailing 24-15 at half-time but rallied impressively in the second-half to overcome last season’s beaten finalists.
Throughout the competition Bourns have been strongly represented in the county side, and not just on the pitch. Will James is the county’s lead physiotherapist with former Forwards Coach CJ Osazuwa a key member of the coaching team headed by John Tibbetts, a former Bournville team manager.
