Bournville’s first-ever Ladies Day has been hailed as a huge success and an event that is likely to become a regular feature in the club calendar.
More than 60 members of Bournville Golds women’s team along with friends and family and members and coaches of the club’s mini and junior section supported the event which was capped by a 57-17 win for the men’s team over Newport in National Two West.
The success of the day reflected the growth and importance of the women’s section in the club and ensured a vibrant atmosphere in the Avery Fields in the clubhouse before, during and after the match.
“Guests had the best view of the pitch for the incredible win over Newport in sunshine, and the Calcutta Cup showing made for a packed clubhouse through to the evening,” said Emily Brindley, Bournville Golds Social Secretary.
“Rumour has it the cocktails were so good they sold out partway through the day and a bar restock was needed, and even Maynard, Groves and Sigley got in on the photobooth action.
“Events like this are so important to bring our huge Bournville family together, to connect across different sections of the club, and to help grow the game and the community we love.
“A huge well done to the people involved in pulling it off. The whole event was organised by volunteers from Bournville Golds in just five weeks – thanks to Jess Turner – and, as always, the Avery Fields team were brilliant hosts from start to finish.”
Brindley’s views were echoed by Mia Patel, social secretary of Bournville Golds, who has been involved in the section for seven years.
“Having been at Bournville since I was 12 it’s amazing to have been able to share an afternoon with some of the women who I’ve looked up to over the past seven years,” she said.
“It’s amazing that the women’s section are getting the recognition we deserve as we are constantly growing and improving as a section.
“It was also amazing being able to interact with all of the other women who make our club super special, all of the minis and junior coaches and various other women from across the club. It was a super successful event and I can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
